South Bay Union School District Picks New Superintendent

The South Bay Union School District (SBUSD) has selected Dr. Katie McNamara to be its new superintendent, the school district announced Monday.

The Board of Trustees will move to formally approve a three-year contract with McNamara at their meeting Thursday. Under the proposed contract McNamara has already signed she will be paid $180,000 a year.

McNamara is currently an assistant superintendent in the Solana Beach School District and lives in Carlsbad.

"I am honored to become a part of the South Bay Union School District in such a supportive community. I intend to continue the successful work of retiring Superintendent Carol Parish and the work that the Board of Trustees has done with the utmost professional integrity. It is a privilege to join an organization that places a high priority on academic excellence and working as a team with staff, parents, and community members.” McNamara said in a statement by the school district.

Dr. Carol Parish has been the district's superintendent since 2006 and announced her retirement in February.

The district signed a $24,000 contract with the company Leadership Associates to search for viable candidates.
