Job Applicants Thrown A Curveball As Pier South Hotel Launches New Website

Pacifica Companies has launched a website for Pier South Hotel, which is scheduled to complete construction Nov. 1.

Piersouthresort.com showcases amenities available at the hotel including a rooftop patio, Sea 180º Coastal Tavern, D'ames Day Spa and the ability to host meetings, weddings and other private events.

Applicants told by the company's job hotline to send resumes to workatpiersouth@pier-south.com in recent days may have been disappointed to receive a failure to send notice.

The email address was broken when the company decided to change its domain name, said Pacifica Director of Planning Allison Rolfe, who apologized for the "unfortunate mistake" Wednesday during a presentation to update the public on the hotel's progress at an Imperial Beach City Council meeting. 

Applicants should be able to submit resumes or applications through the hotel's website within the next week, she said.

"The website is a bit of a snafu. In that regard I would just ask you all to be a little more creative in figuring out how to communicate with this community in how to apply for jobs given the website snafus because we certainly do want to see local people employed there for lots of reasons," said Councilman Ed Spriggs.

No date has been set but people can expect a job fair to be held four to six weeks ahead of the hotel's opening date, said Director of Sales Kathryn Houston.

A job fair to hire about 60 people will be scheduled by the hotel's general manager, who has not yet been hired, Rolfe said.

Reservations for guest rooms may be available within the next two weeks.

The hotel's first official event, the South County Economic Development Council Elected Officials Reception, will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 26 and is open to the general public. 

Rolfe also backed away from a Nov. 1 opening date at the meeting.

"Nov. 1 is the deadline to complete construction however there may be a couple weeks we'll need before we have a big grand opening because of the operational issues and the need to complete the [Marriott] training," she said.

When Pier South opens it will be one of a limited group of beachfront hotels in Southern California which includes nearby Hotel del Coronado.
