Built inside one of the oldest buildings in IB, and an IB Staple for over 60 years, Ye Olde Plank Inn is one of the mostMore famous, or perhaps infamous, bars around.  The Plank is a favorite for locals and regulars as well as many tourists and sailors from the nearby naval base. The Plank has pool tables, televisions, a jukebox, a large outdoor patio and a large bar. Fishing nets, nautical decorations, and military insignia cover the walls and ceilings and a famous captain can be seen up on the rooftop. The bar serves a very limited menu of bar nibbles. It is a cash-only bar, but there is an ATM conveniently inside.

The City of Imperial Beach Lifeguard Service strives to keep beachgoers safe but is also composed of trainedMore emergency responders.

About 10 surfboards line the walls of the station's second floor. Each was donated by local residents or board makers, including a personal board of Dempsey Holder made at the old lifeguard station.

The Dempsey Holder Room on the second floor acts as a meeting space for local non-profit organizations. Requests to use the space may be submitted to the city of Imperial Beach. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department has an office in its building as well.

The city manager is responsible for running the station and is assisted by the Lifeguard Captain and the Public Safety director, who is the chief of the Imperial Beach Fire Department.
