The Miracle Shopping Center .... er well The Skate park ... :-\ ... how 'bout the El Camino Motel land ... I'm sure we have some land left don't we Mr. Janney?

People who wonder what is wrong with things need to look no further than this statement: "TheRead More South Bay Union School District (SBUSD) Board of Trustees agreed to explore the idea of allowing their playgrounds to be used as public parks at schools in Imperial Beach after school hours" Don't THEY know the playgrounds belong to the citizens already ???

Ithink they would be more effective putting more teachers in the classroom's instead of thisRead More boondoogle ! This started out stupid and continues to be stupid !

Quit buying overpriced Apple products (computers, tablets, phones) --- contract out for real worldRead More systems like those used in 99% of industry --- not only would this better prepare students there would be enough money to have everything ...

1st of all let's define GAY as what it is - it is a "homosexual orientation". For males -Read More it is not being picayune about neatness - nor the desire to cook rather than work on cars ... and vice versa for females. It is not even the preference for companions of the same sex - that's normal. It is instead the preference for having sex with members of the same sex - this is not normal - and it should not be held up as an acceptable behavior for high school students. Children need to be given a chance to be "straight" - by using taboos, guidelines, moral code, religion, etc. They shouldn't be told that being gay is a normal or healthy choice - because it's not! How far are YOU willing to accept the gaying agenda from our "social engineers"? Libi - "racism (?) against gays didn't start until the 80's" - you are definitely living in LaLa Land. Do you even remember the 80s? The 80s was when AIDs raised its ugly head - and ironically instead of pushing the "gay" population underground or deeper into the closet there was a concerted effort by the press to make the "hetero" majority accept the "homo" minority and claim that the "AIDs plague" was not their fault - even blaming it on the government ... remember? On the other hand - Bullying is a completely different matter - NO ONE should be bullied - period! By promoting a GAY Parade to represent those being bullied obfuscates the real issue and is a disservice to everyone - especially those who are simply "different".
Maria Duran April 17, 2013 at 03:03 pm
I agree with Mr. Braddock. The issue is that parents must be notified and given the option to optRead More their kids out of such organized events. The schools won't tell us because if we keep our kids home they lose money!!!!

When I went to MVHS I remember at least 2 students who, now looking back were probably Gay. I alsoRead More remember how they were tormented everyday and made fun of. I am ashamed now that I took part in it. To be honest I didn't even really know why I did it just felt better be the one teasing then the one being teased. I don't know what the Parade was about or if it did any good. But I do know that I support anything that try's to prevent that kind of bullying from Happening. Kids should feel safe at school period.

'...They need to be fired or tried swiftly, ...' cali courtrooms are backed up - it takes threeRead More years to get a trial date in some counties... '...if they had any class they would resign...' government corruption is so common elected and appointed officials no longer see it as 'wrong' ... at the sports park workshop the community development director (i've called him 'the cockroach' for so long i can't remember his name) states when the public is screaming at him: 'we have budget workshops, but you people don't show up'... government officials know right from wrong, but have developed a 'stop me before i kill again' mentality to justify their actions....and that's the people's fault for allowing this mentality to flourish .. ib has the lowest tax revenue and the worse schools in cali....indicting a few school board members isn't going to change the culture of evil that's engulfed this town...
John Galt April 14, 2013 at 10:43 am
Seems like an injustice to the taxpayers. It is sad the courts went along with the delays. TheRead More people need to appeal. Pitch Forks and... Sorry I am starting to sound like Libi. The trial needs to start next week.

It is going to be a L. O. N. G. ten months. We are going to have to endure watching our children'sRead More educational funds piddled away by Ed Brand and the board. The on,y board member who EVER speaks out in favor of the students is Lopez, alas, there is little she can do as the lone vote. In 2014 when three new board members are voted in the first order of business will be terminating Ed Brand. Then the hard work will begin, putting our district back together. We will open the books, civil suits, an option.

I don't know if they do now but they didn't when I was in school. There were some "gifted"Read More classes but for the most part the core curriculum was set in stone and on a standardized timeline.

I agree with all the above..it IS the parent that should be the final judge of what the child wears,Read More but then too, there are so many parents that will agree with anything just to keep the confrontation out..I remember having a dress code at MVHS, the skirts had to be at least finger length when the arms were straight to the side..of course "back in the day" (LOL) I think the girls had more respect for themselves & how much skin was shown..the guys DEFINITELY would have been sent home if they wore the "loaded diaper" look pant hanging to their knees..I would refuse to go out of the house with them if any of my gr-sons dressed like that..I also sent one of my gr-dtrs back in the house one time to put on something that she didn't have to make sure her butt didn't show when she sat..I realize the kids like to wear whats in style, but let them learn to have taste, self respect, & whats appropriate for the event..

th styles are in keeping with what we see everywhere today. I did not see anything offensive , tooRead More tight or too revealing here. Privatizing schools will not make students Nobel-prize candidates, nor will it make bad teachersRead More exceptional. "Waiting for Superman" is an informercial by the charter school industry about turning the most important public service in this country into a profit center for corporate interests. Turning public education into a private enterprise will not succeed in educating children any better. All it will do is funnel our tax money into the pockets of school owners and their shareholders. Don't be duped by this sham of a "documentary", and don't fall for the charter school nonsense.

I went to MVMS. I had a "teacher", Mr. Dimasse. He did not even talk to the he students heRead More taught. We would sit down and he would play an audio tape that he had recorded during the first class. He hated his job and he hated his life. He was there for years. This is a clear case of a bad teacher supported by a bad administration. Upside? Lots and lots of movies during his class. Watch the movie "Waiting for Superman". The school should have been closed long ago.....

It's quid pro quo: food stamps, section 8, utility bill aid, etc. in exchange for votes at theRead More ballot box.

LOL, Tell me about it Mike, My family came here from Oklahoma in 1939, But no one told us that weRead More could get all this stuff, So we went to work, worked real hard and prospered, Really dumb way to do it ! and now again the all knowing morons in Washington because they lack the gut's of a hamster are going to grant amnasty again to several million ILLEGAL again ILLEGAL migrants instead of securing our borders, We need to get rid of the b order patrol as they sure as hell arn't patroling our borders or if they are they sure need more help. The answer to these problems begin's with securing our borders and if we fail we will be doomed to becoming mexico del norte !

Thanks for covering this important issue. I started the petition to Rebuild Adult EducationRead More http://signon.org/sign/rebuild-adult-ed-k-12 and there are many, many signatures from the Sweetwater Adult Ed Program communities. There is a similar petition which also has many Sweetwater signatures: http://signon.org/sign/stop-gov-browns-plan. This is a state wide issue and the more that people understand that, the more we will be able to claim the value of Adult Ed and speak up for its renewal. There are more and more resources popping up. I run a blog - adulteducationmatters.blogspot.com and there is the A4CAS on Facebook - the Alliance for California Adult Schools. The more we work together, share information, experience, ideas, strategies, and strength, the better. Adult Education really does matter - to all of us in this state. We just need to own that. To know that WE matter. And then act accordingly. Thank you, again, for covering this issue. And to anyone reading this comment... if you don't already know, check edsource.org for the latest. There IS good news. Many, many legislators are hearing from us... and HEARING us... they get it. Adult Ed is valuable. It's been all but destroyed. And we need to rebuild it. Contact your legislators with your ideas and to let them know what your own area needs. Sincerely, Cynthia

Agreed. Abstaining is NOT voting yes, or no. They therefore did NOT have a majority of the BoardRead More taking Action. ie. no decision. this should be challenged.
No education, no business, no commerce, no teen programs...is there a lot of boozing and druggingRead More around town? because there doesn't seem much else to do...and the funny thing is, it looks like the police arrest and convict for possession of weed, something the rest of California doesn't bother with anymore! The town where I currently live will check people and hand them back their weed and paraphanalia, it's just not really a crime and everyone (even the police) knows that....It's the beach people-leave them kids alone!
Melissa Jacobson March 8, 2013 at 02:56 am
Well I have heard so many different stories about why the lock down happen. the only thing I knowRead More for sure is alot of kids were scared.

HAY Ed, Just an aside I spent the Majority of my voting life as a republican tilll the swearing inRead More of the dweeb ! From that time till the present I have been a non-aligned voter, aytt this point it is a pox on both of the political partys for me, They are so busy trying to embarass each other that they are unable to do the country's business that we sent them there to do !
Ed Teel March 5, 2013 at 10:37 am
Hay Ed, no beef at all. I just like to shake things up once in a while. A little friction in theRead More comment section always seems to spark interest to other readers. Nothing personal.
Ed Sorrels March 4, 2013 at 08:10 pm
Whats your beef, I speak ONLY that is ONLY for myself, If you think she is so good then by all meansRead More vote for her, This is a place to express your opinion and I did so. Don't know how long you have been here but this is not the first time the repug's have tried to elect someone here in south county, He lost also !!!

Why didnt he stay in his elected position to try and make a change in the system? He had to know itRead More was a broken system when he ran for a seat. Im not sure I can buy his reason for resigning.
Mike G March 3, 2013 at 12:18 pm
I don't know whether to say, "Good for him", or "quitting is taking the cowards wayRead More out". Now instead of having someone on the board to call them on their B.S. and possibly institute change, they'll appoint someone that won't rock the boat and it will be business as usual.
Libi Uremovic March 2, 2013 at 08:30 pm
good for william stewart - one decent person amount hundreds of elected and appointed officials thatRead More conspire to plunder the citizenry...
Ed Sorrels March 2, 2013 at 04:35 pm
As forr the 15 local school board members they are going to get a slap on the wrist for theirRead More inadvertent acceptance of bribes and a "Go forth and sin no more" and that will be the end of it and they will be re-elected next time, Damn Shame !!!
Ed Sorrels March 2, 2013 at 04:31 pm
What do you mean by turning ? San Diego has been a closed political operation since the 50's ! IfRead More you happen to be one of the north county good old boy's you can do no wrong, If not you are just screwed, LOL Now they have problems, Filner is a loose cannon they have no idea what he will do next, and the county supervisors are facing term limits, There may be hope out there but the electorate must become informed and get out there and vote, That's how they have made their cabal last at least 60 years that I know of, We must educate ourselves and vote them out of office.
barry March 2, 2013 at 04:10 pm
San Diego is turning into a Chicago, CORRUPT?
Sissy Jacks February 17, 2013 at 01:31 pm
Doubt if DA is on the take, she was the one who decided to prosecute them; but I am wondering ifRead More Filner is part of the mess. Libi, too bad they have little understanding of the word "integrity" - for if they did they they would have taken the measures you suggest. While we sit and wait, THEY SIT AND VOTE - SPENDING MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS, and SUPERINTENDENT BRAND DOES WHAT HE DOES BEST, WHEELS AND DEALS.

Reads like the district attorney wants the case moved not the defendants. Wonder if the DistrictRead More attorneys on the take...
Libi Uremovic February 15, 2013 at 08:41 pm
they're wasting their time and the taxpayers' money....they will never find a jury in the state ofRead More cali that will be sympathetic to their crimes.... plead guilty - pay back the money - and serve your time - get some dignity
Alex Anguiano January 31, 2013 at 11:54 am
31 seats in courtroom 16 in Chula Vista. I arrived early enough to get a seat. LOTS of people wereRead More waiting outside the room, including the defendants. The courtroom was cleared to make room for the defendants and the attorneys. The next group that was allowed to enter was the media. I would say that about four or five members of the general public were able to witness the proceedings. Does the Chula Vista facility not have a courtroom that can accommodate the public that desires to attend?
Mark Williams January 30, 2013 at 09:48 pm
Yes they can get a fair trial in the South Bay. Most sheep don't know the story. Bahh!
Mark Williams January 30, 2013 at 09:45 pm

Sissy Jacks January 29, 2013 at 01:32 pm
It is true this community has had enough of Ed Brand. Last night Brand had to reminded to actuallyRead More look at and listen to the community members who took time out of their lives to show up, stand up and speak up against this move to circumvent the taxpayers. The board listened, perhaps it was the large crowd, or perhaps (fingers crossed) they are beginning to take into consideration that maybe, just maybe, we, the ta paying community mat be right. Side note, you want to talk about dysfunction, questionable spending - there was an item on the agenda regarding cell phones. About 76k worth - when asked by Mr. Anguiano to explain - NOONE, not the CFO, not the operations manager, no one knew what it was for. Funny, Ed Brand oversees the agenda items, yet, he never said a word, not really funny - INCREDULOUS!!!!!
Alex Anguiano January 29, 2013 at 02:55 am
"Easy there, Tolstoy. Your comment cannot exceed 1500 characters." I had a lot to say;Read More however, I went over the limit. Thank you to all of you that attended the meeting to oppose the agenda item as written. The Board modified the proposal. The modification would not have occurred if the public was not at tonight's meeting. Closed session will start at 4:30 pm and open session will start at 6 pm.
Ed Sorrels January 28, 2013 at 07:47 pm
Any board member that votes for this should be immediately recalled ! Or just recall the whole bunchRead More of crook's. This is just a scheme to quite the voices of those that believe along with the district attorney that these people have violated their oath of office and the law in the "Pay for Play" scheme. If nothing else they should be suspended till their trials find them guilty, Or maybe innocent, Really!
Joe Schmo February 10, 2013 at 03:24 am
Heard his son took 2nd at Metros today, who is Mr. Terminel going to blame this time?
Logan February 4, 2013 at 11:38 pm
Can we get a follow up story on Mr. Terminel proof and outcome?
Gaylene Scarbrough February 1, 2013 at 05:36 am
They say the facts/proof are in some film in which Mr.Terminel has . He made it open to all he hasRead More it . Will someone of authority please seize this and check for lude activety he is claiming, All parents should be advised if thier children were filmed with out permission as well .Please evalute this behind closed doors with the autorities and then let the judjement begin stop the assumetoins now let the truth provide our answers .It still makes me think who has seen this ..........in this day and age we need to protect our children from this social media circus .
Sissy Jacks January 12, 2013 at 03:18 am
I would encourage all to read an article written by Susan Luzzarro on The Reader as many have saidRead More here this has been going on for a very long time. The sad thing is, our very own board brought Brand back via John McCann - the question is WHY DID HE BRING HIM BACK???????
Sissy Jacks January 12, 2013 at 03:11 am
Ms. Clingan: I understand your point. Having said that my personal opinion is I am extremelyRead More happy with The Patch's coverage of the alleged corruption in the local districts named in the DA's investigation. It is important that the tax payers know how are monies are being spent. We are fortunate that at least our elementary districts have not caught the "what is in it for me plague"
RUTH CLINGAN January 9, 2013 at 03:09 pm
I agree Sissy Jacks, they need to write some positive things for the 2 districts you mentioned.Read More Their standards are high and it shows. Thank you for you response.
