Average salary over $66,000 and upwards of more than $100,000 PLUS Cadillac pension and healthRead More benefits and these bums want more for what amounts to part-time work. We have several children that moved from private school to the Sweetwater district and found our worse nightmare. Teachers take off regularly and apparently don't leave a lesson plan for the subs who then become babysitters playing movies, telling jokes, etc. I have personally spoken with Jr. and Sr. High School teachers who bragged about taking the day off so they can work another job. Fire the crybabies. There will be hundreds of qualified applicants for each position.

they didn't need a 'campaign finance reform' rule because accepting bribes in exchange for givingRead More away multimillion dollar contracts was already illegal and their public jester to control themselves is shallow to say the least.... i'm sure they passed the reform because it completely eliminated bribes and corruption for our u.s. congress when they passed the reform upon themselves...

congrats on the guilty plead - no need to continue to waste the taxpayers' money..... but everyoneRead More involved needs to do some jail time - especially the profiteers... .....fine, penalties, and public humiliation isn't enough.... councils and boards need to understand that they are legally responsible and the 1st ones held accountable for their actions ... corruption and greed are no longer 'fashionable', but it's all recorded .... now it's time to go back over the last decade's books and send them all to jail.... too bad for them....

Jesus Gandara - gone Bonny Garcia - gone Arlie Ricasa - gone The SUHSD is finally being cleaned up.Read More While we are waiting for the remainder of the plea deals to be made or the trials to be held let's all join in working to replace Ed Brand. It is time for this community to have their students given the best education and the taxpayers to be ensured that those spending the monies are being fiscally responsible. With our teachers facing exorbitant increases in benefits why is Ed Brand spending close to $18 million on a new District office in Eastlake? We have a $10 million deficit, why? Why was our CFO Dr. Alt, a much respected CFO fired? Why is the old CFO being brought back to work in the District - because Alt refused to be anything but TRANSPARENT.

they could at least have the decency to plead out and stop wasting taxpayer dollars.... there's areRead More laws on the books that allows the state to recoup the monies lost as a result of the corruption....the taxpayer has the legal right to seize the assets of the board, school employees, and contractors involved...to pay for court cost and all losses as a result of illegal activity...

Very timely. My husband and I just helped our FOUR YEAR OLD with his homework! After a 30 minuteRead More meltdown - complete with punching, biting, screaming, etc - it is finally done. I feel 4 is WAY too young for homework. And I agree that 95% of the homework assigned today is busywork, redundant, and not needed. I look at my older kid's (a high school Freshman and 7th grader) test scores and grades and realize that 1. they know it after about the 3rd or 4th question; 2. that parents need a PhD in education to help with high school homework; 3. teachers don't have a realistic idea of how much time it takes a student - not them - to do the homework they assign; and 4. the schools are putting way too much emphasis on homework in general. Many of my freshman's teachers have homework count for 10-15% of their overall grade, which can take an A to a C if he doesn't get 100% on the homework. If the kid understands the principles and can show they do in 4 questions, assigning 30 more is just ridiculous.

when i was a kid we took home a piece of paper once in a while, but rarely books and certainly notRead More anywhere near the homework load kids are carrying home today.... my question is: if the kids have so much homework - what are they doing for 6 hours 5 days a week ...???

'...95% of the homework assigned today is busywork, redundant, and not needed....' our kids testRead More scores are declining and they're falling behind the rest of the world, so it's obviously not 'helping'....

As a present 8th grader at Mar Vista Academy, I don't appreciate your negative comments about ourRead More school and community. Great changes have been made at our school, besides the name. The teachers have a good attitude toward us students. They are motivated, and doing their best to give us a good education. Our school spirit has improved, and we actually want to be there every day. There are now many clubs we can join such as art, knowledge bowl, and sports. By the way Vanimaniac, "Pfft--with teachers like THAT, those kids were doomed to fail anyway", thanks for the encouragement.

How are we doomed to fail anyway? U don't know our school.. All of this is just rumors. Are uRead More surprise that we have actually been getting good grades or wtf?
Vanimaniac December 6, 2013 at 06:38 am
Judging by your poor grammar, bad spelling and foul mouth, I'm going to safely assume you are eitherRead More a student or teacher there.
