"SDG&E also said, the “decision by state regulators will allow us to continue toRead More operate our natural gas and electricity systems safely and reliably and to increase system efficiencies and customer benefits through technology enhancements.” Increases were also authorized for the Southern California Gas Company, which, like SDG&E, is a subsidiary of Sempra Energy. A statement from the regulating agency said the increases will allow the utilities to maintain, replace, and improve aging infrastructure, and to operate their systems in a safe and reliable manner." Obviously at no cost to the stock holder. Where do I sign up for this risk free investment? Where there is no cost of business? 'Our fuck up burned your shit down? No worries stock holders, we'll just petition PUC enough times until we finally get our way.' SDG&E keeps making money hand over fist and the consumer eats it in the end because there is NO COMPETITION! Just saying!
Mike G May 13, 2013 at 06:00 pm
Also they don't care if you know it or complain. They will do as they please and there isn't a damnRead More thing we can do about it. Just saying!
Mike G May 13, 2013 at 05:50 pm
SDG&E/Sempra knows that for every one utility rate rejected by PUC they pass two more. Andy isRead More right to a small extent. Utilities and the commissions that are supposed to regulate them are in bed together. All you have to do is look at your water bill to confirm this.

Dorthy, Jump right in, I did put my money where my mouth was, Repeatedly, As I am a slow learner butRead More even we slow learners git it after 10 or 15 years which is how I came to form my opinion of the business. I wish the new franchisee's the best of luck I really do as it will shorten my drive to San Yisrido for Double Whopper's. A business lesson from Business 101, No matter what your intent a flawed business plan will cause failure ! I was mainly intending that these new owners might want to find out the root cause of the last owners abject failure, at that site.
Dorothy C. May 1, 2013 at 10:42 am
Ed, maybe everyone is tired of people being critical all the time. We are happy that a busniess isRead More opening up there and that I.B. continues to improve. And, put your money where your mouth is. Obviously that is what the new owners are doing.
Armando Arciga Jr May 1, 2013 at 04:56 am

OK, thanks. I've only lived here a few years. Glad to know a new business is opening up in IB. WeRead More need them!

Khari, would that be in the shopping center on South-west corner of Palm & 13th..(used to be theRead More "George's Corner")!!!!..LOL thats for us oldies that used to live there, & those who still do, from the 50-60's...

Politicians around the world have agreed that 2 degrees Celsius of global warming is the maximum weRead More should allow, but yet we remain on track to blow past that limit. We can emit no more than 565 Gigatons of CO2 to stay below 2 degrees of warming. But the fossil fuel industry has reserves with the capacity to release about five times that amount (2,795 Gigatons). So we have to try to stymie their business plan. Approving Keystone XL would be doing just the opposite. In San Diego, the impacts of climate change will include rising temperatures, water shortage, sea level rise and more frequent and intense wildfires. I don't think that's the kind of legacy any of us wants to leave our kids and future generations.
Tara EC April 18, 2013 at 04:56 pm
Even if we approved multiple wind farms or other renewable sources tomorrow, it would be 2030 orRead More beyond before they were producing enough energy to be considered a major energy source. America’s energy strategy isn’t a zero-sum game. We should support an “all of the above” energy strategy. For the time being, however, it’s clear that America will need oil and natural gas for the foreseeable future.
Ed Sorrels April 18, 2013 at 07:54 am
You might also want to mention that the U.S.A. contrary to the popular belief is the second largestRead More oil exporter in the world ! I never have figured out why they don't just leave it here !

If you follow the link to the Sandiego.org site, there is a typo...really people race through theRead More san?????? Horseback Riding along the Beach Horseback riding along the beach is a fun way to enjoy the scenic coast. Whether you want to walk along the beach or race through the san, this experience takes you away from all of the noise of the bustling city.

The City actually purchased it for $5.7 and is leasing it for $1./year for 55 years. With aRead More possible option to buy it after 10 years. The balance of $1.3 is going into plans and public works type projects like streets sidewalks etc. (Per Patch article on 12/2/10). We can't wait until they open! Hopefully will attract other nice business to fill the empty spaces and give a boost to local biz too.

I think the hotel looks good. I think spending $7,000,000 tax dollars on commercial property andRead More selling it for $1 is as stupid and as irresponsible as a government can get. The city will collect taxes from the hotel. How many guests over how many years until we recover our $7,000,000? just guessing, more than a few. I am not anti hotel. I am anti government waste.I am very happy the scam of "redevelopment" waste has been shut down before they can screw up more streets and shopping centers.

I agree with you Nanc. The negative nellies always come out to complain, yet never offer anythingRead More productive in return.

When I heard that the Cohn Group was operating the new restaurant I was overjoyed! What a boost toRead More our beautiful little town! I have never had a less than perfect meal at any of their restaurants. Thank you to whoever put this together! Maybe Marriott should take some suggestions for the new name?

Ed: I am a fellow steak and fries lover (last night we had steaks and roast potatoes for dinner withRead More my dad)--Javier Plascencia who is one of the pioneers of the Baja-med movement is a local boy--who grew up in TJ and Bonita and has restaurants on both sides of the border. He grew up surfing in IB. And --at his world-famous restaurant, Mision 19 in TJ--you can eat and awesome steak with fries. The same for other Baja-Med restaurants. Ken Irving is also a local boy--who grew up in Nado, lives on the Strand, and surfs and swims. I swam with him this morning. His restaurant, Bleu Boheme is a great place for a steak!
Ed Sorrels March 26, 2013 at 07:42 pm
We have been being owerflown for years by the Border Patrol, So whats the big problem. Fly them outRead More to Yuma test range or out to 29 palms firing range, They will be using the air space over the least populated routes just in case so I don't see what the problem other than the damn aclu raising every boogie man they can, I for one don't have any problems. Question ? What is the difference betwween being overflown by a drone and the sheriff's choppers ? I don't see any and the sheriff has been upthere a long time and done nothing but good for the average citizen !
Fayette (Davis) Driskell May 1, 2013 at 12:07 am
I believe Mr. Baltazar, that you can put up "NO PARKING..VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED AT OWNERSRead More EXPENSE" signs, which will give you an edge..if they continue to park AFTER the signs are posted, then you can call the police to tow...the vehicle owner will not only have to pay the tow charge, but will be ticketed, & will have to pay a healthy charge to retrieve vehicle from police tow lot..you might go to City Hall & ask them if this is permissible..it is a shame that folks have no respect for others, their property, or their life styles..but in today's world, they seem to be pretty plentiful..also, signs may be put up for "NO TRUCKS ALLOWED"..but I would suggest you to check with the authorities for clearance...good luck..
Mashol Baltazar April 30, 2013 at 12:59 pm
The issues with these apartments are that the tenants that are living in these apartments areRead More parking their cars on Florence street, which then impedes the actual residence owners on that street a space to park. These apartments have their own parking spaces why don't they use them. Plus I have had many cases where people in these apartments are playing loud music from midnight to 4 or 5 in the morning. These people have no respect for us that actually do have to work. In addition there are either company trucks that are dropping off merchandise for the businesses or cars of the apartment tenants that are damaging my backyard fence which they get to close and scrap it or just completely hit it and we have to go back there to fix it, which i am getting very tired of. The good thing is that I now know who the property owner is so I can complain to City hall that this MUST stop. The property owner is fully responsible of its tenants.

OMGosh!! I was so shocked at the building on 13th St. when I was there this past Sept..13th StreetRead More was pretty much vacant lots/fields in the 50-60-& early 70's..we used to play soft ball in those fields, especially from Coronado Ave. down to Holly St. where we lived..my how the times have changed..I did notice tho, there are still 3 homes we lived in that are still standing..one on Holly, one on 13th off Palm, & one on 10th..I would love to have the ones on 13th & Holly Strts..

As a former chef, and yes I worked @ a pizza house while in college; the dough crust is nothingRead More spectacular, the sauce on the pizza tonight (vegetarian), was obviously fresh out of the can tomato's' with no spices for seasoning, canned sweet peppers, cheap canned black olives, BUT WAIT, the few mushroom slices actually were real fresh raw button mushrooms by gosh!!!! For the price I could have made this at home for a tenth of the cost I paid for it. But then after all, I wanted to give them a try and me a break from the kitchen tonight !!!!! But hey, my palate is a little more refined than someone who always' has to order out or depend on processed food. I'll stick to my other local and well known resource for local pizza, who also delivers' within 20-25 minutes! I'll have to ask around about the sauce in their other dishes but I know I won't be going back ever. Unless I'm forced to watch out of town guests who insist on trying it, then I'll just sit by with my glass of water.

Thanks for the "heads up" JOhn. I too, will give them some time to work out their kinks.Read More Looking forward to a good pizza (close to hm) & not having to drive over to Chula Vista. Especially with the current gas prices.
JOhn February 18, 2013 at 04:12 pm
Went there Sunday, and they did not not make a great first impression. They have some bugs to workRead More out. The pizza was great when we finally got it and it took 40 minutes just to get a side salad. and the pizza came about 30 minutes later. 2 hours for a pizza, salad and pasta. But we will be back, but will wait a couple of weeks while they get all the kinks worked out.

The street needs so something like a theater. The roscos that hang and get buzzed all day need aRead More place too. Really sucks to see the pacer, gram and gramps looking so low down every time we visit. The homeless and social vampires in Imperial beach are some of the larger deterrents you really need to deal with. Tough task, but very much part of the community.
Felipe Manriquez March 15, 2013 at 02:23 am
The worst offenders seem to be the owners of the store at the corner of Daisy and Seacoast. ThatRead More place has so much potential. Its pathetic that more is not being done.
Felipe Manriquez March 15, 2013 at 02:20 am
I am wondering what is taking so long for other businesses close to the new hotel to get their actRead More together and improve. All this energy is going into this new hotel and other efforts close by, yet some people are just watching instead of getting into the action. The residents would benefit so much if all parties made an effort.

Faster water quality test results will significantly improve timely notification of beachRead More closures/openings. This has great public health benefits and improves our local economy by not having to wait 48 hours to obtain results but rather having results within four hours time. Regarding cross-border pollution: we need to improve binational collaboration and advocate for increased funding for binational projects and improved waste water infrastructure.
Serge Dedina February 26, 2013 at 04:58 pm
Improved water quality testing will help us to make more informed decisions on when to close beachesRead More and more importantly when to open them. The delay in getting test results often hinders our ability to open our beach quickly--which hurts our economy. This is money well spent. And also please remember that not all the pollution that hits our beaches comes from Mexico, we have a lot of local sources as well.
Pamela Olvera February 28, 2013 at 03:39 am

They should use this for freight and industry. to bring industry back to san diego. it will benefitRead More our economy. Maybe the old street lights (left over from the acid dream hotel) could be installed on CaliforniaRead More street. It is as dark as a hang mans heart at night..You can be confident; The City council will eventually install the new lighting on Seacoast. They will ignore the residents and it will cost 10x's more than it should.. I just want their (city council/hotel owners) left overs for the residents use and safety. Please
Kay Kardian-Porter February 17, 2013 at 11:18 am
I did not think I would agree with the mayor...but I will have to agree with his statement that weRead More need street lights on other parts of the city. If its for the new overkill hotel then let them pay for it. There are not any efficient lighting on the side streets off of Seacoast. I remember years ago someone complained about this and the city said..:" the residents who live on these streets provide the light from their homes". It is still that way because there is no efficient light from Deliah all the way down. So I say tell the hotel to pay for the lights. I still would like to see the alleyway behind the 600 block of Seacoast repaired its been this way for years. Not to get off the subject but its sad there are pot holes that will take you to china. SO FIX THE DAM ALLEYWAY THAT EVERYONE DRIVES ON. Its rediculous how they talk about lights and parks and this alleyway is so dangerous. Oh and the residents provide the light to this alleyway. All for the name of this gigantic hotel give me a break.
