Volunteers Gear Up for Coastal, Inland Cleanup

Help keep San Diego clean and beautiful for many future generations by volunteering at the 9th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup on Saturday.

What better way to pay tribute to Mother Nature than to help beautify San Diego? Join the movement at the 9th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup with volunteers from all over the county.

The cleanup is hosted by the non-profit I Love a Clean San Diego (ILACSD), and will restore the environment at 75 cleanup sites throughout the county, starting at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. tomorrow. The locations stretch from inland areas like Rainbow to south of the border areas like Playas de Tijuana in Baja California, Mexico.

New this year, about 49 inland sites are included due to the high volume of trash in those areas and sparse volunteer support throughout the year. According to ILACSD, 80 percent of marine pollution originates from inland sources like creeks, rivers and storm drains.

For those that want to do more during the event, some locations involve graffiti removal, planting and weed removal. Event volunteers should plan to take a reusable water bottle, comfortable closed-toed shoes, long pants and sunscreen.
