Holiday Toy Donations Sought for Military Families

More than 300 families remain on a waiting list for gifts.

The San Diego Armed Services YMCA is still seeking donations for its 26th annual SuperParent Holiday shopping program.

Parents of about 1,100 enlisted military families will "shop" Wednesday for free gifts that were donated for the program but, according to the YMCA's Brittany Catton, another 350 or so families remain on a waiting list.

She said those additional families are scheduled to shop Thursday, and just how many participate will depend on how many more gifts are donated by then.

“New toy and cash donations received up until (Thursday) will impact how many families we can serve on our wait list,” Catton said.

Major donors to the program this year include the Spiva Family Foundation, the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation, the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club, Marine Toys for Tots and the San Diego Kiwanis Club.

The SuperParent program served more than 1,300 military families last year, according to Catton.
