Relay for Life 2011 Schedule: Flamingos, Togas, Tiaras, Pancakes, Live Music and More

The 24-hour fundraiser includes an incredible list of entertainment, from a midnight lip sync show to a pancake breakfast to a Chicken Dance Lap.

The Relay for Life comes to Imperial Beach on Saturday, June 11, for a 24-hour walk-a-thon, and participants in the fundraiser have plenty of fun things on schedule.

Walkers and their teams are asked to bring their own:

  • tiaras
  • sports jerseys
  • jump ropes
  • pajamas
  • funny hats
  • spirit sticks

Festivities will kick off with the National Anthem, sung by Amanda Everett, on the main stage in the center of the football field. Eight different musicians or bands will perform live, from bagpipes to folklorico to jazz to DJs from Magic 92.5 and Z90.3.

You can also donate $10 for a luminaria or buy food at the event. The public is invited to attend, whether you're on a team or not, to enjoy the music and festivities and participate in activities at team campsites. This year, each will have a movie theme.

2010 was the biggest year yet for the Relay for Life, with fundraisers in more than 5,000 sites across the U.S. raising $388 million. Eighteen countries outside the U.S. also participated, including Malaysia, South Africa, Australia and Jamaica.

The Relay started in 1985 with Dr. Gordy Klatt of Tacoma, WA, who walked 24 hours straight to raise money for his local American Cancer Society office. Last year, 3.5 million people participated.
