Christ Church to ‘Join Forces’ in Support of Military Families

The local church is hosting a baby shower on Saturday for expecting military families and is asking for the community's help with donations.

in Coronado will host their third annual baby shower for pregnant military moms on Saturday. The event is being held in partnership with Operation Showers of Appreciation, whose tagline is “The Few, the Proud, the Expecting.”

The shower is part of national effort to better support our military families. On April 12 President Barack Obama announced a new initiative called "Joining Forces,” a program that encourages Americans to lend their services to this worthy cause.

More than 17 San Diego military families are expected to attend the shower on Saturday. These families are stationed far from home, and in most cases, one parent is deployed or about to deploy. They all are expecting new babies in spring or early summer.

The church is asking for the community’s help with donations. They are seeking new or gently used baby clothes and accessories. Monetary donations are OK, too.

“Providing this type of support for these young families is the least we can do. We feel privileged to be part of the Operation Showers of Appreciation program,” event chairwoman Betty LeMoyne said.

As the wife of an admiral, LeMoyne knows all too well what it feels like to be away from loved ones during such an important time.
