Come Celebrate Easter at 9AM, 10:30AM; Easter Egg Hunt at 9:30AM

This Sunday is Easter!

For those who have been observing this past week, this “Holy Week”, you know this is the time Christians traditionally remember the days leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.

Thursday, or as it is also called “Holy Thursday” or “Maundy Thursday” is when Jesus gathered with his disciples in the Upper Room to celebrate the Passover.  It was during that time, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and reminded them that they are to be servants of others.   And during the meal itself, Jesus took the bread, broke it and shared it among his friends as he told them this was his body.  Likewise, he took the cup of wine and invited them to drink from it telling them this was his blood.

On Friday or “Good Friday”, we remember Jesus beginning betrayed, denied, tortured and handed over to be crucified on a cross.  Jesus died and was buried.   All that was wrong and bad and evil seemed to triumph over all that was good.  Darkness settled in.

But that darkness is shattered on Sunday morning as the women going to the grave of Jesus find it open and empty.  The news became clear that Jesus was no longer dead, but alive.

This Sunday, April 20, my prayer is that you will find a church to attend so you can celebrate what is the core of the Christian faith, the resurrection of Jesus.  If you are looking for a church to attend, I invite you to come to the Imperial Beach United Methodist Church at 455 Palm Avenue.

There will be a simple worship service of approximately 30 minutes with Holy Communion at 9am.

At 9:30am, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt for the children.

At 10:30am, there will be a grand Easter Celebration with choir, moment for the children, and childcare.  Also at this service, individuals are invited to bring cut flowers to put into a “flower cross” at the front of the sanctuary.  You will experience a plain wooden cross transformed and brought to life with the beauty of many colorful flowers.

With both services, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper where all are welcome to receive the bread and the cup.  You need not be a member of the church or even a Christian.  Everyone, as we mean everyone is welcome to God’s Table.

Yes!  We are called to be Easter People!  We are to be people of the resurrection!  The Gospel tells us that death does not have the final word.  This is really good news for you and me.  So, come and join the celebration!

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday at either 9 or 10:30am.

My friends, Happy Easter!
