Youth Football Teams Prepping for New Season

American Youth Football and Cheer in Imperial Beach and Pop Warner in Coronado to kick off schedules later this month.

They may play in different organizations, but the youth football teams and their cheer squads in Imperial Beach and Coronado are both hard at work preparing for the 2011 season with conditioning drills and practices prior to the first kickoff later this month.

The South San Diego-Imperial Beach Chiefs are members of American Youth Football and Cheer, Inc., while the Coronado Islanders are part of Pop Warner Football.

The competition for the SSDIB Chiefs includes teams from the South Bay and as widespread as Santee and Fallbrook. The Islanders compete against the 12 other association teams that are part of the San Diego Pop Warner organization.

Both leagues feature teams and cheer squads broken down by age (5 to 14) and weight (in some cases), with Flag, Mitey Mite, Junior Pee Wee, Pee Wee, Junior Midget and Midget classifications.
