Undefeated IB, National City Fighters to Face Off at Chula Vista Fight Night

4-0 Emmanuel Robles of Imperial Beach is scheduled to fight 5-0 Adrian Vargas from National City.

Professional boxing has been absent from the South Bay for a long time, but it returns with thunder Friday evening with some impressive athletes on the "Champions of Tomorrow" fight card.

Jim Wyatt of sportofboxing.com said the four-round fight between National City's Adrian Vargas of National City (5-0, 3KO) and Emmanuel Robles (4-0, 2KO) from Imperial Beach will be "one of the most memorable fights in San Diego boxing history."

"As long as I’ve been covering the local boxing scene, I’ve never seen anyone with quicker hands than Robles. Robles won title after title in the USA Amateur ranks and the former National Pal Champion is always exciting to watch," Wyatt said in an article.

“This is a great fight," said promoter Bobby DePhilippis in a news release. "Two local young fighters are facing each other for not only bragging rights but the pride of their respective gyms and neighborhoods. Both of them have been asking me to make this fight well before they both turned pro. This will be a real treat for the boxing fans."

According to DePhilippis, professional live boxing has been absent from Chula Vista for four years.

The eight round main event will be between 21-year-old welterweight Oscar Godoy (4-1, 2KOs) takes on Joshua Marks (7-3, 7KOs) of El Centro.

According to the Bobby D Presents, Godoy now lives in Watsonville, CA and came from Colonia Libertad, Tijuana. As an amateur he amassed a record of 95 wins to only five losses with 40 knockouts.

In his second bout, Godoy suffered his only defeat but since then has rattled off three quick wins, all in the latter half of last year. Now he will look to keep the streak going when he faces the hard-hitting and much more experienced “Superman” Marks.

Originally from Georgia, Marks has found a home in the Imperial Valley but has made a boxing career in Mexico with seven of his ten pro fights held there. Marks has knocked out every opponent in each of his wins, which will may make for an action packed match up.

Jonathan Quiroz vs. Anthony Briones (1-0, 1KO)
