Stingrays Beat Dead Rabbits, Rebellion; Rugby Team Headed to Playoffs

After an 0-2 start, the Imperial Beach Rugby Club finished the 2013 season with a 5-3 record.

In the last two games, the Stingrays outscored opponents 130-20, giving the team an apparent offensive advantage as they head into the Southern California Rugby Football Union (SCRFU) playoffs next month.

Traveling to Los Angeles, the Imperial Beach Rugby Club won their final game of the season Saturday against the LA Rebellion 74-12, according to the SCRFU.

After the Stingrays lost their first two games of the season, the club went on to win 5 of 6 to finish the season with a 5-3 record in Men's Division IV play.

Playoffs begin May 4 for the six-team division.

The IBRC also won their final home game of the season April 6 at Mar Vista High School. In the only loss this season for the Apple Valley-based team, the Stingrays trounced the Dead Rabbits Rugby Club 56-8.

The Imperial Beach Rugby Club was started in 2010 by former Mar Vista High School football players.
