Bowe Fertig grew up in Imperial Beach and is a regular at the soccer pitch next to the Boys & Girls Club of South County, Imperial Beach.
This weekend he will join other South County soccer players for the SD Showtime Tournament.
"We play there every other weekend or every other day and there's all these people there, and I got to know the Boys & Girls Club director [Aaron Ruiz] and we're just trying to put the Boys & Girls Club out there so it can shine," he said.
Teams like The Outlanders, Chiludos FC and Kicking Your Grass competed in the first tournament earlier this month.
Photos and videos will be captured during games.
An MVP will be crowned and the winning team will receive Dri-Fit championship shirts. A contest will also be held during the tournament where people can demonstrate their skills with juggling and other talents.
The person with the most Facebook likes wins. An award will also be given to the player with the best goal of the tournament.
"We're just trying to broadcast some of the local talent down here," he said. "We really want to bring good light to IB and the Boys & Girls Club."
In the future, Fertig wants to create a charity or have the tournament contribute donations to local nonprofit organizations in IB and elsewhere in South San Diego.
"We've been in the South Bay for a long time. We've played sports in Chula Vista and IB, and we know a lot of people in the South bay Community. And if we can really get something to work, we can get everyone together and do some good things," Fertig said.
Each team is promised a minimum three games. Last chance to register is Saturday at 8 a.m.
