Mariners Host El Camino in Lions Baseball Tourney

Mar Vista has split its first two games in the nation's largest prep baseball tournament.

The Mar Vista High baseball team finishes up Division 5A pool play in the Lions Baseball Tournament Wednesday afternoon by hosting El Camino High of Oceanside (3:30 p.m.).

The Mariners have split their first two games in the nation's oldest and largest high school tournament, losing to Fallbrook 15-1 on Monday but rebounding with a 3-1 victory over St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs (Riverside County) on Tuesday.

Jason Arroyo earned the win with six strong innings of work. Slater Putland earned the save with a perfect seventh inning, striking out two. Putland, who is hitting .377,  also added a solo homer, and Arroyo (.435) had a hit and scored a run for the Mariners, who are 7-13 overall but 4-2 in South Bay League play, which picks up on April 27 when Mar Vista hosts Southwest.
