Mariners Blank Montgomery 13-0 to Improve to 5-1

Jordan Lertique has a TD run, interception and blocked field goal as Mar Vista posts its third shutout.

The Mar Vista High football team is off to its best start ever at 5-1 with Friday night's 13-0 shutout of Montgomery, the Mariners' third of the season.

Quarterback Jordan Lertique capped an eight-play, 44-yard drive in the second quarter with a 1-yard dive for the game's only touchdown. Lertique set up the Mariners with the ball by intercepting an Aztec pass, and later in the quarter preserved the shutout by blocking a field goal attempt by Montgomery (4-2).

As usual, Mar Vista kept the ball on the ground with Jimmie Hill the leading rusher with 94 yards on 12 carries. Kicker Ricardo Moriel booted field goals of 30 and 25 yards for the Mariners' other scores.
