In Final Seconds of Season, Mariners Lose League Championship

In the final game of the season Friday on 4th and goal from the 9-yard-line, the Hilltop Lancers scored a touchdown and took the South Bay.

With four seconds left, the Lancers took the ball in for the score to beat Mar Vista 18-15 and keep the Metro South Bay league championship.

The Mariners have won three of the past four Metro South Bay league championships.

KUSI's Prep Pigskin Report named the Hilltop-Mar Vista game the South County Game of the Week. Early Friday morning KUSI hosted the Alarm Clock Pep Rally at Mar Vista. 

The pep rally included members of the school's football team, an Onda cycle race and a performance by the Mar Vista Ballet Folklorico club.

Among season highlights:

  • Mariners finished the season 4-6 and 2-1 in league play.
  • With an average of about 200 rushing yards a game, running back Jimmie Hill was 2nd in San Diego County in total rushing yards.
