Local Softball Team Needs Help to Play in National Tournament

The 14-year-old All-Star Team is one of three Imperial Beach teams that made it to a statewide tournament held last weekend.

For the first time since 1994, an Imperial Beach Girls Softball team is headed to the Amateur Softball Association of America Western B Nationals Softball Tournament.

The All-Star Team in the 14-year-old division will play against teams from across the western United States July 30 to Aug. 5 in Fort Collins, CO, but they need some help getting there.

Thousands of dollars in donations are being sought to help send 16 players to Colorado. See the attached letter from league president Juan Rodriguez for more information.

"This is such a great accomplishment," Rodriguez said. "No IB team has been to nationals since 1994. Let's help these girls out!"

Last weekend three IB Girls Softball teams in 10, 12 and 14-year-old divisions joined teams from across California for state tournament games in Lancaster, CA.

For a parade that preceded team play, the teams dressed with masks and capes for a "Mardi Gras or superhero kind of look," Rodriguez said.
