IB Girls Softball to Hold First Summer Season, Players Needed, Sign-up Saturday

You can sign-up online or in-person Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Imperial Beach Girls Softball is holding its first summer season this year and they are looking for more young women to sign-up.

If you know someone who is interested, sign-up online or come to the IB Sports Park and Recreation Center Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Saturday is the last day to register.

"We really need more girls to sign up because were really low on registration right now," said league president Juan Rodriguez.

IB Girls Softball typically has 250 girls sign-up to play in the spring or fall seasons, but right now only have 80 players registered.

"Most girls go to Twin Hills or the Chula Vista Aztecs in the summer," he said "but theres nothing in IB for the girls to do."

"We wanted to make sure girls in IB have something to do this summer," he said.

There are four divisions: girls eight and under can sign-up for T-ball while there are three softball divisions for girls 10 and under, 12 and under and 16 and under.

Up to four teams will play in each division.

The season will go from mid-July to September with one game on weekdays and another game on Saturday.

$60 for T-ball, $110 for all other divisions.

Registration pays for a player's jersey, visor and socks.
