Hay Leaves, Arciaga Steps In As Mar Vista Football Coach

Arciaga, an IB resident, left San Ysidro High for the post, while Hay moved on to Sweetwater High.

Football coaches play musical chairs at times and two, according to U-T San Diego, recently shifted in and out of Mar Vista High School's football program.

One coach, Brian Hay, a 1989 graduate of Helix High School in La Mesa, moved from Mar Vista in Imperial Beach to Sweetwater High in National City.

Tyler Arciaga, the Imperial Beach resident who will take Hay's place, left San Ysidro High, opting to take a position at a campus within blocks of his home.

Hay, who is credited, the report said, with building Mar Vista's successful football team – which posted an 8-4 record last year – is moving to a school that hasn't had a winning record for nearly 15 years.

He was happy at Mar Vista, Hay said, but he called the Sweetwater post “a job I've wanted for some time” because of the school's lengthy history, which he can relate to because of Helix.

Arciaga, according to the report, is making changes to the team's offense, but hoping his new approach will keep maintain Hay's Mar Vista success and keep “the train on the track.”
