The National Football League on Wednesday served up a fascinating start to the 2014 regular season for the Chargers, releasing a schedule that has them traveling to Arizona for a Monday night game before coming home to face the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

The Chargers campaign begins Sept. 8 as the second half of a Monday Night Football doubleheader against the Cardinals. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m., Pacific Time.

The Bolts' home opener is on Sept. 14 at 1:05 p.m. against Seattle.

The Chargers' opponents this fall have been known for a while, but not the order or kickoff times.

Last season, the Bolts went 9-7 in the regular season and defeated Cincinnati in the playoffs before falling to eventual AFC champion Denver.

A playoff run in 2014 could come down to whether the team takes care of business in a series of winnable early season games following the Seahawks contest -- at Buffalo, Jacksonville and facing off against the New York Jets at home, followed by a road date at Oakland.

That contrasts with a five-week stretch to close the year that has the team traveling to Baltimore, then home for games against New England and Denver prior to away games at San Francisco and Kansas City.

The annual bye week is Nov. 9.
