Dempsey Holder Surf Contest Registration Now Open

Imperial Beach's largest surf contest will be held in October.

Registration for the to be held Oct. 21 began Thursday.

more than 150 surfers particiated across , from children ages 11 and under, to adults 50 and older.

Now in its ninth year, there is a new award: the king or queen of the Dempsey. 

The person with the highest score in the Open Mens/Womens, Open Longboard, or Open Stand-Up Paddle will be named the king or queen of the Dempsey.

Money raised at the competition and ocean festival goes toward environmental conservation efforts.

Can some one find out what the sheriff is charging the city for security on this ?? Libi Can you give us a figure ? and why if the amount is anything like Sandcastle days and if it is how can they do this festivle and they couldn't do our Sand Castle Day's cerlebration. Just curious !

there is no additional charge for this event on last years' check register... the sandcastle sheriff's fee was doubled specifically to end sandcastles.... that's the deal our city manager made because that was the results he wanted to obtain... every contract our city signs is against the city ....let's hope mr. lizard, the cochroach, and mayor mcsleeze are pocking the big bucks.... ,,..because if they're not making money by selling out the city they're just jerks...

yeah im sure ed its been going on for 9 years now a surf contest sponsored by wild coast not a zoo full of cholo's like sandcastle days. i don't think wild coast is in it to screw anyone come down and be part of it...again No sheriffs needed or wanted @ the event..for the past Nine years...

LOL, I am flabbergasted, More power to you guy's this is the way that event's should work at our beach. And I will try to get down for awhile! GOOD WORK !!!
