IB Students Get Grants for Garden, Sensory Room

The South Bay Union School District Education Foundation recently awarded local teachers more than $10,000 in money for projects at schools around the district.

The foundation raises money to benefit SBUSD schools and students.

Grants are awarded to teachers who apply for the grants to spend on their classes. The mini grant program results were published  on the organization's website Oct. 25.

"Fourth grade and special education students at Bayside Elementary School will be able to take four field trips celebrating California’s regions and resources," the education foundation said in a statement.

Oneonta Elementary School got money for a garden which will both provide scientific research activities and campus beautification.

Students at Imperial Beach Charter School will benefit from the introduction of the Model Me Kids curriculum which provides social and behavioral intervention to help them achieve success."

Kindergarteners at Imperial Beach Charter School West View will benefit from a
sensory integration room, a "safe and therapeutic place where they will
receive sensory input and can de-escalate when over stimulated."

The entire sixth grade class of Bayside will visit three college campuses as part of
“The College Experience” which will expose and motivate them to pursue higher
education.
