SBUSD Recognizes Retirees and Longtime Teachers

Five of the seven retiring teachers come from Imperial Beach schools.

Teachers, students and family members gathered in the Dr. Robert N. Burress Auditorium Thursday evening at Imperial Beach Elementary School to recognize teachers and staff celebrating employment anniversaries and retirement, and a local man's donation of 25 bicycles to local students.

Of those gathered, the South Bay Union School District celebrated a combined 1,328 years of employment.

Seven teachers will retire this year, five from Imperial Beach elementary schools, with a combined total of 178 years of service in the SBUSD school district.

“I want to walk out knowing that I loved teaching. The kids are amazing,” said Esther Marzec.

Along with the retirees, more than 50 teachers and staff celebrated and were rewarded for employment anniversaries of 10, 20, and in some cases 30 years.
