Report: Sweetwater Officials Accepted Jewelry for Wives in Bribery Scandal

The jewelry came from a construction executive who was awarded school district contracts, according to the report.

A witness in the Sweetwater schools corruption case claims he spent more than $8,000 wining and dining officials—and bought jewelry for their wives.

"Construction executive Henry Amigable testified that on a couple of occasions while dining out with board members and school officials at Baci’s restaurant, he purchased jewelry and offered it to his prospective clients’ wives," according to NBC San Diego.

The report states that former Sweetwater Union High School District trustee Greg Sandoval kept the jewelry, but former Sweetwater Superintendent Jesus Gandara returned it.
