Navy Leap Frogs Parachute Into High School

The U.S. Navy Parachute Team (aka The Leap Frogs) made a special appearance at Cathedral Catholic High School for Military Appreciation Day on Saturday.

Three of the Navy's Leap Frogs parachuted into Cathedral Catholic High School's Manchester Stadium on Saturday evening.

The high-flying show took place in between the girls and boys lacrosse games as a part of the school's second annual Military Appreciation Day. All proceeds from the event went directly to the Warrior Foundation and the Navy SEAL Foundation.

The Leap Frogs perform at 20 to 30 high school across the country each year to raise money for charities. This is the second year in a row the Leap Frogs have visited Cathedral Catholic in Del Mar Heights.

"It's an honor for us to participate in a special event like this for the school," Chief Warrant Officer Keith Pritchett said. "It means a lot to us."

Pritchett said the team practices on a daily basis and each of them have thousands of jumps under their belts. He also said the high school field is considered one of the easiest landing spots for the team.

"This is routine for us, but we're never complacent," Pritchett said. "We always bring our A-game because something could go wrong in an instant."

The Leap Frogs jumped from the aircraft immediately following an appearance by the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard and the singing of the national anthem. The jumpers deployed their gold and blue parachutes and activated green smoke grenades to make it easier for the crowd to watch their descent.

The team maneuvered together in the air, standing on each others shoulders to create various formations. An American flag trailed behind the last jumper to land.
