Montgomery Adult School, IB Adult Education Center Important Dates and Deadlines

The Sweetwater Union High School District Adult Education fall semester is about to begin. If you're interested in signing up for a class or two, we here at IB Patch have gathered information on the who, what, when and where of that process.

Some adults have an itch to excercise their minds, some need training or certification to find a new job.

What's cool about the Adult Education classes offered by is that they range from cooking to welding to computer networks certification.

The Montgomery Adult School is located at 3240 Palm Avenue, but classes are also held in dozens of locations off-campus, including the at 170 Palm Avenue and San Diego Job Corps at 1325 Iris Avenue.

Semester Start Date:  July 26

Semester End Date:  Dec. 16

In-Person Registration:  Begins July 11.  Those wishing to enroll in a class being offered at a Montgomery Adult School must do so at that location. The Montgomery Adult School offices open at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. They are open until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and close at 2:30 p.m. on Fridays.

Online Registration: Began July 5. The online registration process is being piloted this year, which means that only some of the classes being offered by the district have online enrollment. Those classes include (but are not limited to) adult sign language, accounting and health care essentials. If you do register online for a class taking place at the , school officials say you still must come to the school to show proof of payment before your enrollment will be finalized.

On-line Registration Close Date:  Once a class is full.

Materials Needed to Register: None. SUHSD does not require you provide an ID card or Social Security card. You only need to bring yourself.

Add/Drop:  A number of classes have open enrollment, meaning that you can enroll at any point in time until the class is full. Other classes (most typically those taking place in the morning) have managed enrolment, meaning you need to register within two weeks of the class start-date. After that two-week time period, enrollment for those classes will be closed. For more information regarding managed-enrollment classes, call 619-600-3800.

Class Cost: The cost to register for enrollment is $10. It is only required once during the school year and is non-refundable. In terms of class fees, that varies.  Although most classes are offered free to U.S. residents 18 or older, some, such as welding, cost as much as $180 per semester.
