Mar Vista High School failed to drag down a high octane Otay Ranch High School offense Friday, losing their home opener 35-13.
Before the start of the game, a moment of silence was held before the start of the game to recognize who was killed in an attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya earlier this week.
As is a Mar Vista homecoming tradition, a small parade was held for homecoming court before the game, and winners were announced with fireworks during halftime.
Offensive lineman Tony Cosio and Alyssa Rose were named homecoming king and queen.
The Mariners were still within a touchdown at halftime, but the Mustangs put the win away with a 48-yard quarterback keeper and halfback toss turned long pass in the 3rd quarter.
The Mustangs have scored an average 32 points in their first three games of the season. The loss gave the Mariners a 1-2 record.
Mar Vista will play its next two games in the East County, first against the 3-0 then against Santee's Santana High School.
