Some walked, some ran, and many rolled for the 3rd Annual Wheel-a-Thon at Friendship School in Imperial Beach Thursday morning. The school near South Bay Union School District offices on Elm Avenue serves special education students from three to 22-years-old.
The hour-long fundraiser was held with the help of parents, family, Navy volunteers and staff from the school and the San Diego County Office of Education.
Money raised will go towards field trips or other things to benefit students.
"We're thinking about having SeaWorld or the San Diego Zoo come by and do a field trip at the school site, maybe some more things for our multi-sensory environment, some software or things like that," Principal Diana Lynn said.
Manny Villarreal of Chula Vista and his six-year-old son Carlos stopped counting the number of laps they ran after 20.
Wheel-a-Thon's a lot of fun, Manny said, and it's always a good time to spend time with special kids, including but limited to his son.
"I know the dad's feelings. I know a lot of dads that want to be here but can't for one or another reason, and I just like to help and come around whenever I can, cause it's very fun for me," Manny said.
