For the first time in more than a decade, Mar Vista High School is back in the county football rankings.
The San Diego County Sportswriters/Sportscasters Association Poll, operated by The North County Times, lists the undefeated Mariners (3-0) among the honorable mention in its lastest CIF San Diego Section football poll released Monday evening.
More than 23 representatives of the media vote in the weekly rundown of the best prep teams in San Diego and Imperial counties.

Last Friday's 44-0 blanking of host Monte Vista was the second straight shutout by Mar Vista, gaining notice by at least four voters to gain four voting points, gaining a tie for 13th place with Santana and Valley Center.
Another South Bay school, Eastlake, tops the poll after gaining 21 of 23 possible first-place votes. The Titans are followed by traditional CIF Division II powers Helix and Oceanside.

Last year Mariners football made the Division III playoffs and won the South Bay Metro league championship for the first time since the 1980s.
