There is a real Navy Base on the south end of 13th Street! Really!
In the past they have been known to move large items such as helicopters, airplanes, boats and contaminated materials from OLF. Here is a recent photo showing one of at least a dozen of these large boats being pulled up 13th and onto SR 75 to I-5.
If the Navy continues to mitigate contaminated materials from OLF or continues to base operations that require movement of WIDE LOADS or SECURE LOADS....then the number one reason not to let the City and Developers narrow 13th Street would be to not interfere in the business of our armed forces and supporting staffs.
I'm sure there are other reasons. I still don't believe that narrowing of Palm Avenue was justified, properly engineered or thought out. I still believe that cars, buses and bikes will not mix well at the merge westbound on Palm near Rainbow.
