. Today, Imperial Beach is well known for its sand castles, great surfing and fishing from the landmark wooden pier. One can also bird watch in the beautiful Tijuana Estuary, view ocean-themed public art and observe fabulous sunsets. We recently contracted for a study on ecotourism and have great plans in store to make I.B. a destination for bird watchers, wetlands aficionados and others with interest in conservation and environmental issues. The beaches of I.B. slope gently into the blue Pacific Ocean and provide a perfect setting for a variety of recreational activities. Adding to the natural beauty of the ocean and our climate is the casual and friendly atmosphere of the community. Here, the local resident, vacationer or fisherman can truly kick back, relax and enjoy. Imperial Beach is a unique Southern California beach town where people come to enjoy the sun, sand and sea. The City is also working with the Corps of Engineers to plan for and execute a sand replenishment project to respond to beach erosion. The first phase of dredging sand and dumping it near our shore is completed. As you can see, Imperial Beach is growing and improving and change is in the air.
