Well known T.V. Star " Bryan the Dog" has announced through his publicist that he is cancelling his participation in the Lowes Dog Surfing Competition due to an unfortunate turn of events. Bryan is best known for his role on "The Family Guy" television series and was planning to attend the Lowe's event until Bryan heard about a local dog friendly business that was rudely excluded from the community event. After doing a little more research Bryan realized that Lowes wasn't even from Imperial Beach and it was because of Big Box Pet Stores and Puppy Mills that a local Imperial Beach Dog Business who had supported the event for years was being denied booth space and the right to participate. These kinds of events are supposed to be about the community. About the Locals...people and dogs. When you exclude a long time participant and sponsor to show favoritism to a big box sponsor......that's not right. I refuse to put my name and reputation on the line. Besides...when Imperial Beach gets it's own hotel (someday?) Do you think Lowes will come in and sponsor the event then? Since the event has migrated from North of the Jetty to right at the Pier, it should be an ALL IMPERIAL BEACH EVENT. Imperial Beach isn't even that dog friendly most of the year I'm told. Dog owners are usually upwardly mobile folks with disposable income. Anyway....I'm staying home and pulling my endorsements for the event. This event should be for the people and dogs of Imperial Beach and for those who clean up after their dogs....it should be 365 days a year...not just one!
