No 'Medicine' for These 'Patients'

Show me the "meds."

"Get floored and be at peace"

"Get lifted and be happy"

"Customized essence, taste, and buzz."

Patrons of this "medical" marijuana dispensary aren't after "medicine." The following "product" descriptions came from legalmarijuanadispensary.com.

Hybrids are the best of both worlds. They are cross-bred strains created to retain certain elements of Sativa and Indica, for a customized essence, taste, and buzz.

Sativa is efficient in the treatment of depression and anxiety as it arouses brain activity and offers a dynamic high. Get lifted and be happy

"Indica is higher in CBD for those seeking a mental lift and an intoxicating body high, with flavors ranging anywhere from savory to fruity. Indica is therapeutic for a wide range of ailments. Get floored and be at peace.

I found only references to the strength, variety, availability, "doctors", lawyers,  etc. on this site, but I found no medically relevant information here, or on other sites I checked. For all the information packed on these sites, if there was an overriding medicinal purpose for the "product" other than just to get "high", surely it would be a prominent part of the website. Who would pay to create a yellow page add and leave out the main purpose?

In 1997, The Office of National Drug Control Policy commissioned the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to conduct a comprehensive study of the medical efficacy of cannabis therapeutics. The IOM concluded that cannabis is a safe and effective medicine, patients should have access, and the government should expand avenues for research and drug development. The federal government has completely ignored its findings and refused to act on its recommendations.

CANNABIS SMOKE DOES NO HARM - 1. Cannabis Smoking Does Not Cause Cancer - Sources: Tashkin D. Marijuana Use and Lung Cancer: Results of a Case-Control Study. American Thoracic Society International Conference. May 23, 2006, San Diego, California According to Dr. Donald Tashkin and his colleagues at the University of California in Los Angeles results from a case-controlled study demonstrate that even heavy and long-term smoking of cannabis is not associated with lung cancer and other types of upper aerodigestive tract cancers.

Smoked Cannabis Reduces HIV-Related Painful Peripheral Neuropathy Sources: Abrams DI, Jay CA, Vizoso H, Shade SB, Reda H, Press S, Kelly ME, Rowbotham M, Petersen K. "Smoked cannabis therapy for HIV-related painful peripheral neuropathy: results of a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial." Abstract, IACM 3rd Conference on Cannabinoids in Medicine, September 9-10, 2005, Leiden The results of a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial demonstrates that smoked marijuana is effective in reducing HIV-related chronic ongoing neuropathic and acute pain. Neuropathy is a nerve disease, which often results in numbness, weakness, and spontaneous muscle twitching. Neuropathy is a serious medical problem with unsatisfactory treatment options. In a clinical trial at the University of California, research participants smoked one marijuana cigarette containing 3.56% THC or a placebo three times daily for 5 days. Researchers concluded that smoked cannabis provided greater than a 30% reduction of pain in 13 of 25 randomized patients, who averaged 6 years of neuropathic pain.

THC Is Effective in Appetite and Weight Loss in Severe Lung Disease Source: Lecture by K-C Bergmann on 17 March 2005 at the Meeting of the German Society of Pulmonology in Berlin Patients with the severe lung disease (COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) often suffer from appetite loss and cachexia (weight loss) resulting in reduced general wellbeing and early mortality. In an open clinical study at the Clinic for Allergies and Asthma in Bad Lippspringe, Germany, 18 COPD patients aged 49 to 81 years with a mean body weight of 48.5 kg received 3.3-4.2mg of THC two times daily for 16 days as oily drops delivered by THC Pharm, one-half an hour before breakfast and dinner. In the six months before entering the clinic 7 participants had a constant body weight and 11 lost 2.3 kg on average. After 16 days of treatment, results indicated a considerable improvement of appetite, general well-being and functional performance (36 per cent mean increase in walking distance) and an average gain in body weight of 1.5 kg, which is significant given the short treatment period.

Cannabinoids May Promote the Development of New Brain Cells Sources: Jiang W, Zhang Y, Xiao L, Van Cleemput J, Ji SP, Bai G, Zhang X. "Cannabinoids promote embryonic and adult hippocampus neurogenesis and produce anxiolytic- and antidepressant-like effects." Journal of Clinical Investigation. October, 2005 According to animal research at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, cannabinoids that bind to the CB1 receptor promote the development of new nerve cells in the hippocampus, a brain region that is very important for memory and behavior. This cannabinoid effect may decrease anxiety and depression. Scientists used the synthetic cannabinoid HU210 that acts similar to THC on CB1 receptors in the brain. Chronic, but not acute treatment with this cannabinoid promoted nerve cell proliferation in the hippocampus of adult rats and exerted anxiolytic- and antidepressant-like effects. Other illegal and legal drugs, including opiates, alcohol, nicotine and cocaine, have been shown to suppress the formation of new brain cells when used chronically, but the effect of cannabis on that process was uncertain. Cannabis appears "to be the only illicit drug whose capacity to produce increased ... neurons is positively correlated with its (antianxiety) and anti-depressant-like effects," Dr. Xia Zhang and his colleagues wrote in an article for the November issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation, of which an advance was posted online on 13 October 2005.

Cannabis Reduces Neuropathic Pain In Multiple Sclerosis Patients Sources: Rog DJ, Nurmikko TJ, Friede T, Young CA. "Randomized, controlled trial of cannabis-based medicine in central pain in multiple sclerosis". Neurology 2005;65(6):812-9; Researchers for the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool conducted a single-center, 5-week, randomized, placebo-controlled group trial on patients with MS of a whole-plant cannabis-based medicine delivered via an oral spray. Each spray delivered 2.7mg of THC and 2.5mg of CBD (THC and CBD are two active compounds produced naturally by the cannabis plant), and patients could gradually selftitrate to a maximum of 48 sprays in 24 hours. The researchers concluded that the cannabis-based extract Sativex, manufactured by GW Pharmaceuticals, is effective in reducing central neuropathic pain and sleep disturbance in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Based on these study results, which were published now in the journal Neurology, Sativex was approved as a prescription medicine in Canada for the symptomatic relief of neuropathic pain in adults with MS and is available in pharmacies since 20 June 2005.

These are just a few of thousands of studies and proven facts. Please stop spreading spin and misinformation. Believe in science, believe in reason, vote for compassion, vote for sensible regulations, vote YES ON S!

The Answer, This time tomorrow this "Debate" will be over, except I would expect the present city council to go directly to the U.S. Deputy Attorney, Laura Duffy and ask for help in getting around and foiling the will of our citizens most notably prop. 5 by raiding every and any one of them the day it opens. We haqve another election in two years and must never forget all the help they have been in our search for compliance with the law's of the state
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 04:25 AM
Ed - I have been in two car accidents on the road. Both times it was a drunk on the other end. One of the times, i was stopped. I wish the drunk driving laws were toughened enough to stop the idiots. I have no, zero, objections to medical pot. My only objection to prop S is the danger it brings from having a high cash business. Prop S is not sensible. Buy the medicine at a established pharmacy. Nobody would object. Today I meet one of the paid greeters outside of CVS. She was pleasant enough. She did have to keep referring to her notes. She also did not live in imperial Beach. I did get one of the slick colored fliers.
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 04:31 AM
Hemp - No, it won't. Just disappointed that the people got it wrong. Not the first time, and not the last. To me POOP S is not about medical pot, it is about large profits for a few who don't live here and risk to those of us that do live here. Buy your medical pot at CVS! Fine. Nobody will object. No on POOP S
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 04:36 AM
Hemp and Libi - I don't drink and drive. Why are you getting off of topic? Hemp again - focus, I know it's hard, but try. POOP S IS NOT SAFE FOR IMPERIAL BEACH. It is ludicrous to think otherwise.
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 04:43 AM
Which FDA? The one under Clinton, Bush, or Obama? One would think if it was a good idea then sometime in the last 15 years it would have been approved. Three administrations.

Any elected official who asks the federal government to assist them in defying a state law that they've taken an oath of office to uphold is guilty of Treason Against the State - Penal Code Section 37 (giving aid & comfort to California's enemies) which is punishable by death or life imprisonment ! All we need to do is give Imperial Beaches Mayor a lethal injection & you could be fairly certain that would be the end of any further obstruction statewide ! It's just our luck that the voters will strike down the death penalty tomorrow cheating us out of a public execution & that would be a pity !
Libi Uremovic November 06, 2012 at 05:24 AM
for our local sheriff's - dispensaries will enable law enforcement to focus on the illegal drugs ... we frame the message: save access ... zero tolerance on crime ... we're going to protect our patients and retailers... if the local and feds will not respect the rights of the individual and small business we will call upon our governor to bring in the state guard to protect our state rights... if any government agency has nothing better to do with their time and taxpayer money then to hassle law abiding citizens they are grossly over budget ... ...or perhaps that agency has no use at all...
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 03:32 PM
Hemp – why don’t YOU go place these citizens under arrest for treason? Do it now! It is ludicrous to suggest giving the Imperial Beach Mayor a LETHAL INJECTION because he does not support your miss-guided beliefs. Folks – this is what POOP S is about. Hemp is a perfect reason to vote HELL NO. Hemp has burned what few brains he had out, no doubt because of drugs, and is a danger to society. PLEASE VOTE NO on POOP S for a safe Imperial Beach! We don’t need more people like Hemp running around.
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 03:36 PM
Eugene - again this is not about the medical side of POOP S. It is about LOSING PUBLIC SAFETY. Buy your drugs at a nice clean pharmacy - no problem. NOT AT SOME SLEAZY POT SHOP PLEASE VOTE NO ON POOP S - Save Imperial Beach
Frank Mockery November 06, 2012 at 05:18 PM
With an irrational, angry & clueless spokesman like John Galt Measure S should pass easily ! The Yes on Measure S supporters couldn't have chosen a more ludicrous & laughable representative of the opposition themselves ! John's intelligence has never been questioned,as a matter of fact it's never even been mentioned ! His paranoia is only exceeded by his asininity & the supporters of Measure S would like to thank him for helping so many YES voters make their decision so much easier ! John is a classic example of the old adage about one's lack of intelligence - "it's better to keep your mouth shut & let people think you're stupid, than to open it & remove all doubt" !!! Thanks for all the incredulous voters who after reading dozens of your reprehensible rants have joined with us to VOTE YES on S,it may very well be we couldn't have done it without your unwitting help !!!
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 05:31 PM
Stop making a mockery about this! Saftey and security for the residents of Imperial Beach is what is at risk. POOP S is dangerous for Imperial Beach! PLEASE VOTE NO on POOP S!
Chico&The Man November 06, 2012 at 07:46 PM
Prop S has passed!!!
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 08:05 PM
Alex, Alex, Alex, calm down. POOP S has not passed, tha ballots have not been counted, but nice try distracting the facts. Why come $80,000 in out of town money was spent for this? Compassion? NO because of huge PROFITS are to be made, under the table without paying proper taxes! Again - POOP S is NOT SAFE for Imperial Beach - period, end of subject. POOP S has no limits as to whose home they will open next to. POOP S is bad. PLEASE VOTE NO on POOP S Thank you
Chico&The Man November 06, 2012 at 08:51 PM
a collective in IB will pay more in taxes than you can fathom
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 09:00 PM
Alex - BS! A collective in Imperial Beach will sell the drugs for large sums of cash "Black Market" just as in Los Angeles, ask Charlie Beck, LAPD Police Chief, and will avoid paying the taxes. POOP S has no limits. Have the medical needs go to an existing pharmacy where proper supervision is done. These collectives will have a "Doctor" on staff (if not an owner) who will write the prescription then sell the drugs because someone can’t sleep, or they have back pain, or they are stressed. Bull! Again - POOP S is NOT SAFE for Imperial Beach - period, end of subject. POOP S has no limits as to whose home they will open next to. POOP S is bad. PLEASE VOTE NO on POOP S Thank you
Brash Brazen November 06, 2012 at 09:24 PM
John - A place where people POOP & an appropriate name for a piece of excrement like Mr. Galt who has POOP for brains !!! Next time you pinch a loaf, just imagine that you're sending John on a thrilling underwater adventure ! Q: Why is John Galt like a dirty diaper ? A: Because he's full of **it ! The vast majority of voters who are more intelligent than John (and that's setting the bar extremely low) will weigh the facts & VOTE YES on MEASURE S !!!
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 10:01 PM
BRASH - your back! I was missing your lack of wittiness. As usual you continue your personal attacks and not focus on the intelligent argument. And as usual you make my argument in opposition to POOP S better that almost anyone; although you do have some competition. POOP S is about LOSING PUBLIC SAFETY. Buy your drugs at a nice clean pharmacy - no problem, NOT AT SOME SLEAZY POT SHOP. PLEASE VOTE NO ON POOP S - Save Imperial Beach, protect our children. Thank you
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 10:12 PM
NO ON S IB You are new to the party – welcome. POOP S will have large sums of cash on hand. That is why the few people backing it pooped in over $80,000 US dollars. As you suggested, some of the money may have been fronted by Mexican cartels, I don’t know, with as you say millions of dollars are at stake, crime will happen. The Los Angeles Times ran a full series of articles over the subject when the Los Angeles City Council and Mayor voted to close them. LAPD Chief, Charlie Beck, made a report to the council reporting on the crime magnets the ‘collectives” had become. Closer to home, the San Diego Union Tribune had similar stories when the San Diego City Council and Mayor voted to close them. Also all of the local news media outlets reported about the VIOLENT CRIME these collectives had brought. Once again, buy your pot at a real pharmacy; such as CVS. No problems. Again - POOP S is NOT SAFE for Imperial Beach - period, end of subject. POOP S has no limits as to whose home they will open next to. PLEASE VOTE NO on POOP S, help our children. Thank you
Chico&The Man November 06, 2012 at 11:10 PM
"As you suggested, some of the money may have been fronted by Mexican cartels. How did i suggest that all the product in collectives is California grown 100% you missed "DO not work with" that means not one penny is from any were outside of California the Cartels are on you're side .......that's not medical quality that's called contraband john
John Galt November 06, 2012 at 11:23 PM
So all please tell me, EXACTLY HOW MANY POT STORES DOES IMPERIAL BEACH NEED? We are a small town of 25,000. We only have two nice, clean pharmacies. That seems to be easily enough pharmacies to serve all of the residents of Imperial Beach. Go buy your drugs there, at a safe, legitimate medical pharmacy. This will keep the Mexican Cartels money away, just like the pro POOP S side suggest, and keeps Imperial Beach SAFE. PLEASE VOTE NO ON POOP S, to protect our children.
John Galt November 07, 2012 at 02:59 AM
So can we agree to make it at CVS where the drugs are sold? If so, I am in. One more hour folks. PLEASE VOTE NO ON POOP S, It is not safe for our children. Thank you
John Galt November 07, 2012 at 03:08 AM
Why won't it? Pot is legal right? Procrastinators - you have less than one hour. PLEASE VOTE NO ON POOP S. Keep our city safe for our children. Thank you
Chico&The Man November 07, 2012 at 06:22 PM
1.Pot would crush Big Pharma's Profits No one would go to cvs any more for there toxic concoctions that's why it would never work For many it is legal.. 2.Today in Politics: Amendment 64 passes. Colorado is the first state in the nation to legalize marijuana.followed by Wa ..
