South County realtors group endorse in San Diego's mayoral race

The Pacific Southwest Association of REALTORS® (PSAR), a 2,000-member trade group for San Diego-area realtors, has become the first and only realtor association in San Diego County to make an endorsement in the San Diego mayor race. PSAR recently announced its endorsement of Nathan Fletcher, a Democrat, for mayor of San Diego.

PSAR, with an office in Chula Vista, said its Government Affairs Committee interviewed several mayoral candidates. The PSAR board then ratified the committee’s recommendation to endorse Fletcher, a former state assemblyman.

“As REALTORS®, we have a deep belief to give all citizens the opportunity to access affordable housing and live in a safe neighborhood. We also feel compelled to participate in the selection process for leaders who share our belief in basic values and in providing opportunities for all,” said Jeff Campbell, 2014 PSAR president. “We believe that Nathan Fletcher possesses the leadership skills and a clear vision that will help our regional economy grow so that San Diegans can excel in their careers and participate in the American dream of home ownership.”

Campbell said that PSAR’s endorsement decision transcended party affiliations and focused on housing issues that concern homeowners and realtors. “No other candidate is as uniquely qualified as Nathan to get our city back on track,” Campbell said. “His plans will encourage innovation and competition, create jobs and restore confidence that is critical for a thriving local economy.”

Fletcher said, “I’m deeply appreciative of the endorsement of the PSAR, whose members see neighborhood issues up close and personal every day. Ensuring our city is doing a good job of delivering basic services and that we have a strong job base are my priorities, and not only realtors but all San Diegans share those goals.”
