Work Begins to Modernize 12 Stations on the Blue Line

The Barrio Logan, Harborside, and Pacific Fleet stations are the first to be rebuilt.

Construction is underway to modernize the 32-year-old San Diego Trolley Blue Line, with 12 stations from Barrio Logan to San Ysidro getting upgrades, SANDAG announced Tuesday.

The Blue Line is the most heavily used transit service in the San Diego region, with an average weekday ridership of more than 45,000, according to SANDAG

The Barrio Logan, Harborside, and Pacific Fleet stations are the first to get rebuilt. All Blue Line stations will remain open throughout construction, which will last until 2015.

Along with the station modernization, the Blue Line will get new, low-floor trolleys in late 2014. The result will be faster boarding for all passengers and improved on-time performance, SANDAG said.
