Video: Miracle Shopping Center Demolition Begins

Demolition began by tearing through what used to be Ollie Angels Skate Shop and Save U Foods.

Demolition of the Miracle Shopping Center and its more than a dozen stores began Thursday morning on the portion in the 800 block of Palm Avenue. Tearing down the shopping center is expected to be completed by the end of the month, said Imperial Beach Redevelopment Agency (IBRA) coordinator Jerry Selby.

The Miracle Shopping Center, which first opened in 1949, will be destroyed to make way for the Breakwater project, a plan to build seven stores including a 14,000 square foot neighborhood market.

A deposition and development agreement (DDA) between the IBRA and Sudberry Properties for the Breakwater project was approved unanimously by City Council at a meeting Wednesday evening. Construction of the new shopping center may not begin until next year.
