USS Carl Vinson Begins to Plan Homecoming

The aircraft carrier's commanding officer provides an update, while the ship participates in activities with India's naval forces.

A couple of notes from the USS Carl Vinson, :

Capt. Kent D. Whalen, the ship's commanding officer, announced this week that: 

“Planning for our homecoming is underway…always a good sign!  I appreciate all the hard work our FRG, Ombudsman and leaders back on the beach have and will provide to make the homecoming a memorable event for all.”

He also noted the crew's participation in the Middle East aiding Marines and soldiers deployed there and the Vinson's visit to India.

As for the striking photo above: the Vinson led the pack in the Indian Ocean, with the guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill and the guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey trailing behind. The photo was taken during training with India's navy as part of Exercise Malabar 2012, an annual event between the countries.

The ships are part of Carrier Strike Group 1.
