UPDATE: Border Crossing Jet Ski Driver Arrested
A smuggler driving a Jet Ski was arrested as he returned to Mexico after dropping off a 23-year-old man.
The driver of a Jet Ski who dropped off a 23-year-old Mexican man near Imperial Beach Boulevard and Seacoast Drive Monday morning was apprehended by Mexican authorities as he returned south through Mexican waters, according to Rodolfo Zuniga of the U.S. Border Patrol.
After the 23-year-old was arrested by Border Patrol in Imperial Beach, Mexican authorities were notified and the Jet Ski driver was apprehended near Rosarito, according to Zuniga.
Maritime crossings have increased in recent years, he said, typically involving boats that depart "somewhere between Rosarito and Ensenada, Mexico, travel up to 40 miles West to avoid detection, and then drop off as close as Imperial Beach, and as far [north] as San Clemente."
