A state committee approves final changes to redistricting, which will make Imperial Beach part of the 51st Congressional District currently represented by Congressman Bob Filner, who is running for mayor of San Diego.

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission finalized its redrawing of state legislative district lines Monday.

Lines are redrawn every decade following the release of results, and will go into effect following 2012 elections.

Imperial Beach will remain in the 79th State Assembly District, which will be renamed the 78th State Assembly District and is represented by Ben Hueso, and in the 40th State Senate District represented by Juan Vargas.
