Roberts Named Chairman of San Diego County Board of Supervisors

The supervisor who represents the fourth district will serve in the role for one year.

Ron Roberts on Monday took over as chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors from Bill Horn.

Roberts, whose district includes much of the city of San Diego, assumed the position in a short ceremony at a special meeting of the board.

Roberts said it was an honor to lead what he said was one of the nation's best-run counties.

"The languishing economy and dysfunction in Sacramento will continue to vex us in 2012, but I expect my colleagues and county staff to remain up to the challenge," Roberts said. "Great opportunities await us, and I look forward to a year of accomplishments for the residents of San Diego County."

The five members of the panel rotate the chairmanship and vice chair positions. This is Roberts' fourth time in charge.

Greg Cox became vice chairman, which puts him in line for the top spot if he is re-elected in November.
