Six people were killed and 13 injured in a shooting outside a Tucson supermarket. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head and remains in critical condition.

Rep. Susan Davis, whose 53rd Congressional District represents Imperial Beach and other parts of San Diego, posted a statement on her website about the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on Saturday morning.

"I am saddened and outraged by this tragedy that killed a federal judge and a 9-year-old child, as well as other injured innocent victims," she said.

The shooting occurred Saturday outside a supermarket in Tucson, AZ, when a gunman opened fire as Gifford was meeting with constituents, authorities said.

At least six people are dead, including 63-year-old John Roll, chief judge for the U.S. District Court in Arizona, and 9-year-old Christina Greene. Giffords' aide, Gabe Zimmerman, 30, was also killed. Thirteen people were injured.

Authorities said the congresswoman was reportedly the target of the attack. Giffords, a Democrat, was flown to a Tucson trauma center. She is in critical condition but she has been responsive and prospects for survival are good, her doctors said in a press conference Sunday.

"Regardless of political ideology, we are united in our horror over the violence against those who are called to serve at any level and members of the general public who participate in the Democratic process. We cannot allow our public servants to become targets of threats and violence. We must condemn violence and the ... threat of violence, immediately, every time."
