Naval Base Coronado Scores Top Defense Dept. Environmental Award

The base was lauded for its efforts to protect threatened species at its eight installations in Coronado, Imperial Beach and throughout Southern California.

Naval Base Coronado received a top national honor from Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel for its approach to dealing with threatened species at Naval Air Station North Island and seven other locations.

The base won the Secretary of Defense's Environmental Award for natural resource conservation.

“It makes me extremely proud when our installations receive recognition for their dedication and service to the Navy,” said Edith Jacobsen, NAVFAC Southwest Environmental conservation lead, in a statement. “It reflects on all of the southwest, Navy Region Southwest, and NAVFAC Southwest when the team effort, innovation, and can do attitude is reflected in such important awards.”
