Is Supermajority Control in the State Legislature Good or Bad?

The new district lines were drawn by a citizens committee that didn’t focus on getting incumbents re-elected or creating safe seats.

It’s been more than a century since both houses of the California legislature were completely under the rule of one party and now it looks like history has repeated itself.

The Sacramento Bee is reporting that Republicans are now conceding that Democrats will have a two-thirds majority in both the Senate and the Assembly.  The timing could be a little tricky because some assembly members and senators might run for new seats.

The 2012 elections were the first elections where candidates for both houses of the California legislature ran to represent districts drawn by an independent citizens panel rather than politicians.

Are you happy with the statewide election results that give one political party, the Democrats, supermajority control of both houses of the California legislature?

Take our poll then tell us in the comments how you feel about the election results that give Democrats supermajority control in the California legislature.

More spending and more taxes. What could be better?

Due to the stalemates of sessions past, I think a super-majority is a good thing. It is now the responsibility of the legislators to use this advantage correctly. Gov Brown has repeatedly said that raising taxes, Like Prop 30, would happen ONLY with a vote of the people. Lets ee how things go before crying those vitriolic tears...

Sal, I’m sure that Fidel Castro would agree with you 100%. Isn’t a one party system a little like a dictatorship with no opposition or no opposing party? I understand people who run a system without opposition usually get exactly what they want, but perhaps not what is good for others. We’ll see won’t we?

In Castro's Cuba, only one party is ALLOWED. Here we have multiple parties, but then you already knew that... Just tired of the grind of Gridlock and Gamesmanship. There are Winners and Losers, but dont despair. There will be another reckoning in two years...
