On May 20th, Imperial Beach Mayor Jim Janney and Port of San Diego Commissioner (and Imperial Beach resident) Dan Malcom engaged in a "nail hammering" contest to mark the official completion of the Imperial Beach Pier on May 21!
Both spoke at the ceremony to commemorate the official inauguration of the most southwesterly pier in the United States, in Imperial Beach, the most southwesterly city in the United States.
As far as the "contest" between the two, Mayor Janney denied reports that he allowed Commissioner Malcom to win the contest to secure more port funding for Imperial Beach.
