IB Lifeguards Are Ramping Up for Summer

In San Diego, last month was the warmest March on record. Typically, springtime is when lifeguards are the busiest per-guard we have on duty. On a hot weekend in the spring, when lifeguards don’t have full summer staffing, we can still get huge crowds with numerous rescues. Lifeguards have been gradually “ramping up” equipment, training and personnel preparing for this spring and upcoming summer during which most rescues occur.

Specialized rescue equipment employed by lifeguards greatly help lifeguards do their jobs more efficiently. Four of the eight lifeguard towers have been placed back out on to the beach, and two replacement 4x4 trucks have been purchased and outfitted.

In the next month, all of the 8 beach towers will be getting a facelift to brighten them back to their original colorful array matching the Surfhenge surfboard arches. They will also be cleaning and polishing the white fiberglass and stainless steel. The towers will be transported in pairs and painted in the empty lot near 7th and Palm.
