Senator Hueso to Chair Veterans Affairs Committee

Hueso was also assigned to committees related to education, banking, water and housing.

Newly elected State Senator Ben Hueso was appointed to a collection of committees earlier this week in Sacramento, his office reported Monday.

As chair of the Veterans Affair Committee, Hueso will oversee discussion of bills on a range of topics related to the livelihood of former servicemembers and their families.

At his first meeting Tuesday the group will discuss proposed legislation to monitor the success of Veteran Affairs assistance and changes to the California Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise Program.

Hueso will also sit on the Banking and Financial Institutions Committee, Education Committee, Natural Resources and Water Committee and the Transportation and Housing Committee.

The former state assemblyman was elected to represent Imperial Beach and the rest of the 40th Senate District which includes portions of San Diego, Imperial and Riverside counties in a special election last month.

Hueso replaces Juan Vargas who now represents Imperial Beach and the 51st Congressional District in Congress.

He was sworn in to office March 21.
