Wood Deck Catches Fire at Seacoast Drive Home

The fire is believed to have started below the deck, a member of the Imperial Beach Fire Department said.

A fire below the wooden deck of a Seacoast Drive home brought fire engines from across San Diego's South Bay to the Imperial Beach shoreline Sunday morning, according to Jason Bell with the Imperial Beach Fire Department (IBFD).

The IBFD got a call about the fire at 1404 Seacoast Dr. around 2 a.m.

"Since it was underneath we had to cut the deck to get the fire," Bell said.

The IBFD extinguished the fire in 20-30 minutes, Bell said. The Coronado Fire Department, San Diego-Fire Rescue and a Chula Vista Fire Department Battalion Chief also responded to the incident.

Crews worked an hour after the fire was knocked down to assure the fire did not start again to threaten the home a second time or nearby properties.

The cause and total cost of the fire are still under investigation, Bell said.
