Woman Found Dead in Home Identified as Corinna West, 33

A woman whose body was found inside her Dahlia Avenue home has been identified as Corinna West, 33, authorities reported late Saturday night.

According to sheriff’s homicide Lt. Glenn Giannantonio, deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation responded to a call for help about 12:50 p.m. from a residence in the 200 block of Dahlia Ave.

“When they arrived, they found a deceased woman inside the residence,” Giannantonio said. “It was West's father who found her in the residence and made the call to the Sheriff's Department.”

No other people were home at the time, sheriff’s Sgt. Fran Passalacqua told Patch earlier. Dahlia Avenue was blocked off from 2nd Street to 3rd Street.

Deputies reported seeing signs of trauma to West and homicide investigators were called in to conduct an investigation, he said.

An investigation is being conducted to determine whether the trauma was caused by an accident due to a medical condition or if it was caused by another person.

Paul Dykes and West were friends.

"She called me last night man, and I didn't take the call, and now she's dead today and I'm kind of freaking out a bit," Dykes told IB Patch Saturday.

"I'm used to death," the Navy veteran said. "Just not at home. At home it's a whole different beast. She was a beautiful, sweet 33-year-old girl that did not need to die."

Dykes said lately West "had more trouble than most": she told him someone broke into her home, that she was having trouble with men and and a few weeks ago, she thought she had a seizure.

One of the things West enjoyed and was known for among people living near the beach was walking her large dogs, Dykes said.

West’s Facebook page includes photos of herself with several dogs.

“I have good friends, good family and a really cool dog,” she wrote in her biography. “I don’t have time for other peoples [crap], I'm all stocked up on crazies, thanks. Leave your baggage at the airport. On another note, I am a sweetheart, really.”

In apparently her last post, West wrote:

Well, looks like I will be moving from my roomy beach cottage to a small 1920's bungalow off park blvd, wich is a super cool area and the house it a cool as can be....love the remoldeling and still kept the old school touches, glass knobs, cool light fixtures and all original hardwood floors. But I will miss the beach and my house here so much=(

On Oct. 9, she wrote: “Putting my sweet Horton down tomorrow, He was the best dog I have ever had and truly took care of me and protected me through the years. This all feels like a bad dream”

The next day, she posted: “Thanks to everbody for your love and support. Horton was laid to rest at home earlier today. He was my best friend and I loved him so much. I still think he is here sometimes................I know he is in spirit”

On Oct. 29, she wrote: “Got Hortons ashes back today, is nice thaving them home. Sometime I will spread them where we loved to go on walks. I think about him everyday ♥”

Several friends of West posted notes of condolence.
