A mental competency hearing was scheduled today for a woman accused of fatally shooting her ex-boyfriend inside his Imperial Beach apartment after stalking and harassing him for a year.

Vegas Batallya Bray, 25, is charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 16, 2012, death of 31-year-old Victor Saucedo.

The defendant was previously sent to a state mental hospital for treatment after a judge found her incapable of understanding the charges and unable to assist her attorney at trial. Today's hearing is schedule to determine whether she has regained her competency following treatment, paving the way for criminal proceedings to be reinstated.

Bray and the Saucedo met while they were both in the Navy and started dating in 2010. The relationship lasted for several months and ended toward the later part of 2011.

Authorities said the couple broke up because Bray was jealous of the mother of Saucedo's child but Bray continued to pursue the victim.

Bray committed seven acts of vandalism against Saucedo's car and apartment, including popping his car tires, smearing peanut butter on his door and even tracking him down after he changed apartments, said Deputy District Attorney Harrison Kennedy at an earlier hearing.

The couple had some "social interaction" the day before the slaying in which there was talk of rekindling the relationship, but Saucedo said he wasn't interested in the long-term relationship that Bray wanted, according to Kennedy.

Bray allegedly felt "spurned" and left the victim's apartment the next morning, then returned that afternoon with a .38-caliber revolved and shot Saucedo nine times. She called 911 after the shooting to report that Saucedo had committed suicide.

'... She re-loaded the damn gun and kept firing...' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- where did she learn to shoot to kill - art school...?? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the theory that there are no repercussions from war is incorrect...

Are you making an assumption that she was in Iraq or Afghanistan, Libi? Or did you read that in some other article? While I am no friend of war, guns or the Second Amendment for that matter, without more information on her history we shouldn't speculate that her Navy stint caused her mental state of mind. She could have pushed papers in the Navy for all we know.

Libi is our Bill O'Reilly of females. LoL. She knows everything. Can't you tell from all of her posts? Just because she reloaded, Libi thinks it's learned from the military. I guess if gangbangers kept reloading, they learned it from the school of gangs on how to reload a gun 101. Doesn't take a genius to visually learn on their own how to reload a revolver. Of course if it was purchased from her, then I'm sure she asked the gun store how to reload it.

i am so sorry citizens of ib - i forgot you are the child neglect and pretend there are no results from actions capital of the world.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- there is well documented history regarding the repercussions of war, but that's fact and knowledge, so it doesn't count in your world... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ironically we have laws to protect dogs and roosters because everyone understands that teaching them to fight is cruel and ruins the animal....

Whoa, Libi, I didn't see anyone here claiming that there are no repercussions from war. I'm not a regular reader of the comments posted here, so I wasn't aware you are a regular poster. And I wasn't aware of any animosity going on between you and other posters. I certainly wasn't expecting your reaction over my simple question as to if you had evidence whether the woman had seen combat during her service with the Navy. Forget I even asked and carry on in whatever fashion you choose. Peace
